How Ventilation Works with Cooling Coils

A cooling coil integrated into a ventilation system tempers incoming fresh air — this is part of ventilation, not a standard split air conditioner.

A dry cooling coil placed in the supply duct gently lowers the temperature of incoming fresh air.

What a ventilation cooling coil does

In a balanced ventilation system, fresh outdoor air is filtered and passed through an energy recovery core. A dry cooling coil placed in the supply duct then gently lowers the temperature of that incoming fresh air, so the air delivered to the room is comfortable rather than warm and humid.

Why it is not air conditioning

A split air conditioner recirculates the same indoor air. A ventilation cooling coil only treats incoming fresh air as it enters the building. It works with the ventilation system to deliver fresh, filtered, and tempered air — it does not replace ventilation, and ventilation does not replace it.

The result in a tropical climate

The combination means a building receives a steady supply of fresh, filtered air at a comfortable temperature — ideal for Thailand’s hot and humid conditions where simply opening a window is not an option.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about cooling coils within ventilation systems.

Is a ventilation cooling coil the same as air conditioning?
No. A cooling coil only tempers incoming fresh air on the ventilation supply path. Split air conditioning recirculates existing indoor air and does not provide controlled fresh-air exchange.
Where does the cooling coil sit in the system?
Typically in the supply duct after filtration and the energy recovery core, so incoming outdoor air is cleaned and partially conditioned before delivery to occupied spaces.
Do I still need energy recovery if I have a cooling coil?
Yes. Energy recovery reduces the load on both the cooling coil and the building’s main cooling system by transferring energy from exhaust air to incoming fresh air.

“We spend the vast majority of our time indoors — the air in that space matters more than the air outside.”

System integration

  • Coil sits on the fresh-air supply path
  • Works after filtration and energy recovery
  • Tempers air before room delivery
  • Complements — does not replace — ventilation

Why it matters

Poor ventilation lets CO2, humidity, and pollutants accumulate. Fresh, filtered air supports health, concentration, and the long-term protection of the building itself.
